Walls
Walls
Walls are designed in accordance with AS3600:2018 section 10 or 11. The user shall bear in mind the following assumptions that are inherent in column designs performed by Tribli:
- Walls will always be detailed to AS3600:2018 section 11.7, even if designed as columns
- In-plane wall loads will be resolves and averaged over the end of the wall when determining peak compression and tension loading. Averaging distances can be set in the Dove settings.
Wall effective lengths are calculated by taking the height between levels where walls within a given chain sit within (or very close to) the slab profile, then multiplying by the effective length âkâ factor specified for the wall. Unlike columns, wall effective lengths are not reduced by the slab thickness at their top-most level.
Wall Properties
Wall properties may be edited via the properties dialog which can be viewed by double clicking on a wall. Note that walls on other selected levels within the chain of the currently selected wall will also be edited.

Type Parameters
For walls with no type defined ('Custom' type), all type parameters may be freely edited. For walls with types defiend, type parameters will be locked-out, and the user will need to edit these parameters in the 'Edit Type' dialog.
- Thickness - The thickness of the wall
- f'c - The characteristic concrete compressive strength of the concrete material forming the column
- Cover - Clear distance from the external face of the column to the fitment bar
Custom Reinforcement
If the "Use minimum reinforcement" toggle is checked, Dove will automatically apply the code minimum reinforcement for the wall. Otherwise, the custom reinforcement defined within this section will be used in the design.
- Bake - Clicking the Bake button while the "Use minimum reinforcement" toggle is checked will convert the automatically assigned minimum reinforcement to custom reinforcement and pre-populate the reinforcement property fields
- Vertical Bar Diam. - The size of the vertical reinforcement bars
- Vertical Reo Spacing - The spacing of the vertical reinforcement
- Horizontal Bar Diam. - The size of the horizontal reinforcement bars
- Horizontal Reo Spacing - The spacing of the horizontal reinforcement
- Restrain Vert. Bars - Whether vertical bars are restrained by fitments/ties
- Central Reinforcement - Whether the reinforcement is a single, central layer or applied to each face of the wall
- fsy - yield strength of reinforcing steel
Instance Parameters
Instance parameters are definable for all walls.
- FRL - Required FRL for the column in minutes
- Fire Exposure - Whether the wall is exposed on one or both sides for fire checks
- k - Effective length factor for buckling about the out-of-plane axis
- Min Load Eccentricity - The minimum eccentricity to be applied to the wall about the out-of-plane axis. Note that code minimum eccentricities are automatically applied.
- Exposure Class - Concrete exposure class to AS3600
- Ignore Concrete Shear Capacity - Vuc will be taken as zero. Use in lightly loaded walls that may experience load reversal.
- Horizontally Restrained - Whether wall is horizontally restrained under shrinkage and thermal loads
- Always Design as Column - Forces Dove to design the wall to AS3600 Section 10, otherwise the wall will be designed in accordance with section 11 provided there is no tension on the section.
- Fire Eccentricities from Moments - When checked, moments from the defined fire load combinations will be converted to eccentricities for the purposes of fire design.
- Wall Chain - The chain to which this wall belongs. Select 'New Chain' to create a new chain for this wall or 'No Chain' to orphan the wall.
